Emerald Rose Lewis grew up in a house that was thriving with music. Her dad being a radio DJ, she was surrounded by reggae, dub and hip-hop records. Emerald and her sister would even nick some of them and try to do some mixing themselves.
So it’s no real surprise that she has grown into being a DJ herself. In a quick three year rise from 2015 to 2018, she went from hosting amateur radio shows to becoming a key voice within independent radio, hosting on Rinse FM and playing specialist shows on UK funk, bass, house and garage.
She even worked closely with MIA on curating the 2017 edition of Meltdown Festival which featured artists such as Giggs, Princess Nokia and Young Fathers. It was no easy rise to get there, however, with her earlier days of radio presenting involving plenty of part-time job graft on the side.
A multi-hyphenate, Emerald is involved in plenty of ongoing projects and often at the same time, whether that be presenting, DJing or modelling. Some of her career highlights have been from touring the world and she’s played an impressive amount of shows.
She’s had DJ performances at the MTV EMA after-party, Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party, Lovebox and worked with a whole host of brands. Within her 6 years at Rinse FM Emerald has been a station favourite, hosting the breakfast show, the drive show and her own specialist shows. She’s deeply involved in the community around the station.
Her own mixes tend to lean more towards R&B but it all depends on what she’s listening to at the moment and they all have to go towards the same energy and vibe. Throughout lockdown, she’s been keeping us all entertained with livestream sessions and was even nominated for Best Solo Stream Series at the DJ Mag awards.
She’ll be up in Lancaster to bring the party to Highest Point festival on Saturday 4th September. Be sure to catch her live set for the best R&B tunes.
