Josh White and Matt Lowe are the pair that makes up Hybrid Minds. Initially meeting through a radio station that they both used to play on they bonded over a similar taste in music. Starting out in about 2010 the duo decided to have a go at making some tunes together.
Both having backgrounds as DJ’s beforehand, they found that their list of inspirations was quite eclectic. Enjoying artists such as Ben Howard, Jamie XX, M83 and Daughter. This goes some way to explaining their own style of Liquid Drum and Bass.
Their music sounds atmospheric and a lot more emotional than what you might expect from Drum and Bass. They’re as capable of mellowing you out as they are getting your feet to come alive. They were pioneers of the Liquid Drum and Bass scene.
One of their first tracks ‘The Place’ which they released in 2011 was a huge success for Hybrid Minds, bringing them a whole host of new fans across the world and critical acclaim. Their smooth and unique blend of styles has seen them in demand.
One of their career highlights being a huge tour in New Zealand, reaching so many people on the other side of the world. They also had a hugely successful residency at Phonox and have sold out Printworks. In 2016, they made the decision to start their own label ‘Hybrid Music’.
It’s seen them release a string of successful singles and remixes by some of Hybrid Minds’ favourite artists. They’ve released 2 full-length albums in their career so far and there’s no sign that the pair will slow down any time soon.
They’ll be making an appearance at Highest Point festival on Saturday 4th September and you won’t want to miss such a unique style of live show.
