Monki was as young as 17 when she played her first DJ set and over ten years later she has gone on to become a sought after name in electronic music. It all began with an obsession with pirate radio and her love of both music and radio led to her gaining a work placement at Radio Jackie.
She quickly ascended by getting an internship with Rinse FM, the legendary London broadcaster and worked her way up until finally, they gave her the Thursday morning slot. It proved to be so successful that in relatively little time Monki was able to get a prime time Saturday slot.
This, paired with a musical background that had previously seen her spend time at the Point Blank music school saw her gain opportunities at the BBC. At first, invited to do a weekly slot on 1Xtra, she later went on to host her own BBC Radio 1 show for six years.
A key tastemaker for electronic music, she started a new radio show with Defected in 2019 and is in demand as a DJ at festivals across the world.
